What is Brainstorming?
Brain Storming is a permissive style of teaching Strategy. It is a problem and creativity oriented Strategy. It is based on the assumption that children can learn better in a group than individual study. The Higher-order of cognitive and affective objectives can be achieved by employing brainstorming in teaching.
Another objective of Brainstorming is to develop the creativity of the students. It consists of a problem-solving situation in which learners are assigned a problem and are asked to discuss any ideas which come to their mind. The group is encouraged to provide and evaluate the accountability of their own suggestion of the problems

Osborn’s Brain Storming Techinues
Osborn’s brainstorming has suggested the following steps for the strategy of teaching.
- All phases of the problem are planned and think about the sub-problems which may emerge.
- Select sub-problems to be attached.
- Think up about the data or evidence which may help in solving them
- Select the probable source of data and collect the most relevant data
- Decide the possible ideas through freewheeling with suspended judgement as hints to the solution.
- Select ideas most likely to lead to the solution.
- Consider the possible ways to test these ideas
- These ideas are tested in terms of relevance, Adequacy and sufficiency.
- Imagine all possible contingencies and ways of meeting them
- Take decision about the final solution of the problems
Thus, the brainstorming strategy has both a psychological and educational basis for teaching. It is a more creative strategy of teaching and encourages original ideas. It provides more ideas of good quality. It creates the situation for more independent thinking.
